I like the idea of taking a really polished painting and using the character of that painting as the central theme. For this piece I chose the painting “The Milkmaid” by Vermeer and within that theme I wanted to play with the ideas of the micro and the macro so you’ll see it in the blue field of the characters dress, you see the constellation of Taurus, and you see these satellite floating around it and they all lead towards the milk that she’s pouring. Then you see that I changed the milk to water and put the age of Aquarius there. So the age of Taurus leads to the age of Aquarius which we are moving into now and that’s the age of understanding and the age of global enlightenment hopefully. Within that I wanted to play again with the micro version of that so I included a diagram of an atom. This atom shows the large alpha of the sky and the space around us and the omega side to that which is the inner inner part of it.
Interestingly enough the diagram of the Atom and the old alchemy symbol for the sun aren’t that dissimilar, their basically a circle with a dot in the middle of it and that simplicity and that large to small format is one of those universal truths that I look for in things. You can find the same truth in the small part as you can in the big part you can usually connects all the way in the middle. And in this painting entitled the Cosmic man is in a way exploring how we’re in the middle of all of those things.
